Major League Baseball Franchise Ready To Be Sold

The Tribune Co. has reached a deal with the Ricketts family to sell the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field, a source told the Tribune network on Monday.

The two sides finalized an agreement over the weekend and sent the contract along for Major League Baseball's approval, the news network reports. The rest of the league's owners must approve the sale of the Cubs. Court approval also will be required as the Tribune Co. is operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The sale price is "close" to the $900 million bid the Ricketts family offered earlier this year for the team and a stake in Comcast SportsNet Chicago, the source said.

MLB Twins All Star Duo Finally Getting Due On National Scene

Minnesota's Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau are fast becoming one of baseball's best batting tandems.

The two Twins have been selected for the All-Star team for a third time each. Mauer will start at catcher for the American League squad in St. Louis next week. Morneau is a reserve first baseman.

Knuckleballer To Appear In First MLB All Star Game

Red Sox manager Terry Francona had a little fun with Tim Wakefield after the 42-year-old knuckleballer made his first All-Star team.

The rest of Boston's major league-high six All-Stars were leaving Francona's office when the manager called for Wakefield. He tried to tell him he didn't make it, but quickly started to laugh.
