Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is seriously considering lifting Pete Rose's lifetime suspension, sources tell the New York Daily News.

The Daily News reports that some of the most influential Hall of Famers are lobbying for Rose's reinstatement. Hank Aaron, when talking with reporters at baseball's Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Sunday, said, "I would like to see Pete in. He belongs there." During Saturday's meeting of the Hall of Fame's board of directors, members Joe Morgan and Frank Robinson also said they hoped that Selig would lift the sanctions against Rose.

Cleveland pitcher Winston Abreu has been suspended for three games for plunking a Seattle hitter over the weekend.

Indians manager Eric Wedge was penalized one game. Wedge was to sit out Monday night when Cleveland played at the Los Angeles Angels. There was no immediate announcement on whether Abreu would appeal. He was also fined an undisclosed amount.

Bobby Valentine says he won't be back with the Chiba Lotte Marines next season even as the Japanese team's fans lobby management to keep him.

Lotte management decided before this season that it could not afford Valentine and would not renew his contract. That brought protests from Lotte fans, who staged nightly vigils at Chiba Marine Stadium and submitted a petition to Lotte's front office with more than 100,000 signatures.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies are no closer to an agreement on a Roy Halladay trade.

Charliessports.com reported Toronto rejected a Phillies' counteroffer of left-hander J.A. Happ and three prospects – right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and outfielder Michael Taylor. Philly made the counter after reportedly rejecting a Blue Jays' request for Happ, top pitching prospect Kyle Drabek and outfield prospect Dominic Brown. The Phillies are unwilling to deal both Happ and Drabek.
