football picks-  (associated press) chicago bears nfl football player lance briggs leaves the scence of accident.
Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after crashing his Lamborghini and leaving it alongside an expressway
on the city's North Side, Illinois State Police said Monday.
After meeting with police Monday afternoon, Briggs also was cited for failure to give immediate notice of an accident and improper lane usage, said Master
Sgt. Luis Gutierrez.
Briggs was released after posting $100 bond. He is scheduled to appear Oct. 4 in a Cook County court.
''As a result of interviewing Mr. Briggs, it was determined that he was the driver of his 2007 Lamborghini,'' police said in a statement.
Officials said the 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago, which had crashed into a light pole, was discovered around 3:15 a.m on Interstate Highway 94.
Bears coach Lovie Smith indicated the team will not discipline Briggs, whose ''spirits were good for being in a one-car accident.''
Defensive end Adewale Ogunleye said Briggs told him about the crash on Monday morning.
''He said that he crashed the car or something, and I had had to get to meetings, so I didn't have a chance to talk to him,'' Ogunleye said.
Briggs, who has not addressed the media since reporting to training camp late last month, did not make himself available during Monday's open locker room
period. And he had left practice to meet with authorities by the time reporters were admitted.
Briggs' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was not available for comment, according to his brother Jason, who works for Rosenhaus Sports Representation. Jason Rosenhaus
also declined comment.

nfl picks-  (associated press) 2007 nfl san diego chargers outlook.
The Chargers looked like the best team in the NFL for much of the season, with explosive talent on both sides of the ball. Then the usual Marty
Schottenheimer playoff issues came to the forefront, ultimately leading to a change in administration.
Offensive Keys: Any unit that starts with LaDanian Tomlinson has a chance to be special if the other pieces fit, and they certainly did. Few QBs have ever
started as many games in a major Division I conference as Philip Rivers, and as a result his learning curve is far ahead of most others his age – so much so
that the offense did not skip a beat despite losing a great talent in Drew Brees. Rivers still has some mechanical flaws, but correcting them is the one
genuine positive that Norv Turner shows on his resume. OT Marcus McNeill was a great find in the second round last year, and now rookie WR Craig Davis has a
chance to be special.
Defensive Keys: We have to adjust the numbers a bit here because they fell off in a major way when a suspension took away Shawne Merriman and an injury
sidelined Shaun Phillips. At the same time there is some meaning to be found in the overall numbers. While there is some real big-time talent, depth is a
serious issue. Losing Donnie Edwards to the Kansas City Chiefs, despite the fact he's slowing physically, took a leader away from San Diego's huddle.
File This: While he struggled in the playoffs throughout his career, Schottenheimer was a master at getting the most out of his roster during the regular
season. Contrast that and last year’s weak schedule (only one game all season versus a division winner, which they lost to the Baltimore Ravens), with a new
coach and what is now a much tougher schedule. In the past, Turner has been light years away from Schottenheimer in terms of getting the most out of
personnel.

nfl picks-  (associated press)  tennessee signs cory simon.
Defensive tackle Corey Simon agreed to terms Tuesday with the Tennessee Titans and will try to resume his career after not playing in 2006.
Simon, who took a physical with the Titans a week ago, was expected to be at practice later Tuesday.
''Corey brings a combination of run-stuffing size and pass-rushing ability to the defensive tackle position,'' general manager Mike Reinfeldt said in a
statement. ''Prior to last season, he has been a consistent and productive player who contributed to playoff teams and we are excited to see him get a second
chance here with the Titans to prove he still has that ability.''
Oddsmakers have the Titans listed as 6 1/2-point favorites against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.
Indianapolis released Simon on Aug. 4 after he failed his physical with the Colts at the start of training camp. He had arthroscopic knee surgery but was
placed on the non-football illness-injury list Oct. 5 with an undisclosed ailment a year after signing a five-year, $30 million contract.
He was the sixth pick overall in 2000 by the Philadelphia Eagles and a Pro Bowler in 2003. He spent five seasons with Philadelphia and had 270 tackles and 32
sacks, but the Eagles released him just before the 2005 season because he refused to sign a one-year franchise tender.
If healthy, he could help a defense that ranked 30th in the NFL against the run last year, giving up 144.6 yards per game.

nfl free picks- (covers.com) cleveland browns delay bentley's return.
The Cleveland Browns placed center LeCharles Bentley on the physically unable to perform list Tuesday to give his surgically repaired knee more time to heal.
Bentley has yet to practice this year, but said he hasn't given up on playing this season and had hoped to begin practicing with the team by the end of
August.
By placing Bentley on the PUP list, he will be permitted to attend team meetings and continue his rehabilitation at the team's facility. After six weeks, the
Browns will have three weeks to allow Bentley to begin practicing.
If Bentley begins practicing, the Browns have three weeks to make a decision on his roster status - they can add him to the 53-man roster, place him on
injured reserve or leave him on the PUP list for the rest of the season.
The Browns' over/under is set at 6 regular season wins on betED.com.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection with New Orleans, Bentley signed a six-year, $36 million contract in March 2006 to join his hometown team, then tore his left
patellar tendon on the first full-contact play of Cleveland's training camp last summer.
Following surgery to repair the tendon, a staph infection attacked the knee and Bentley needed three more surgeries. Bentley has said that doctors considered
amputating his leg at one point.
He was cleared to return to the playing field in July by Russell Warren, the New York Giants' team doctor who performed two of Bentley's operations.
The Browns gave Bentley an MRI exam when he reported for training camp and decided he should continue his personal rehab for another four weeks. He's been
working out away from the Browns' facilities but attending meetings.
